Emily in Paris is the show everyone either loves or loves to hate, and that extends right into its wild fashion statements. With the legendary Pat Field at the helm of the costume department, Emily in Paris is predictably filled to the brim with eye-popping frocks, and that didn’t change in the new season 2 drop. Let's discuss.
Emily Cooper
As the lead of the show, Lily Collins's Emily has the most screentime for her outfits. But....uh, that's not always a good thing. You'll see what I mean.
1. Yellow Moment, Big Mistake
There is one thing I couldn’t STAND about Emily’s looks this season. If you guessed “weird fashion motorcycle gloves,” you’d be right! I know Pat Field loves them, and some times worked better than others, but this outfit is kind of a mess.
2. What Is Going On Here, Girl?
This outfit is less than the sum of its parts. Like, the coat is great and the dress is ok. But that sad little overshirt is, well, sad. Nothing plays well with each other.
3. The One Thing I Can't Stand
The other thing I disliked almost as much as fashion gloves were bucket hats. But, sigh, they are "in," and they occasionally worked well in the show. Not here though, God no.
4. The Sad Birthday Outfit
I get this is a casual, daytime outfit for Emily's birthday, but it's still so sad. I'll keep the jacket, though.
5. The Stripes We Never Saw
This outfit looks awesome, but this is pretty much the only glimpse we really get of it, minus some white pants. More, please!
6. A Floral Disaster
I just hate this floral. I also think "florals with stripes" is an overdone fashion "risk" these days. It pays off further on, but here: Meh.
7. The Weird Pre-Birthday Outfit
Emily wears this just before her birthday, and honestly? I respect it. She looks like a crazed lady who lunches. But then again, she looks like a crazed lady who lunches.
8. Blue Monday
Enough with the gloves! I love the color story here in theory, but it's all a bit washed out/low impact. I'll take that jacket again.
9. Power Hour
Okay, I know I said I hated the gloves (I do) but this is actually an amazing look. Love the 80s power broker thing she's got going on.
10. Starstruck By This Outfit
If this weren't PJs, it'd be way higher on the list. As it is, they are incredible PJs.
11. Them's Fighting Clothes
Emily Cooper, bringing gladiator sandals right back in. This outfit has a high degree of difficulty, what with the different vibes of each of the pieces, but it works great. That's Pat Field at her best.
12. Sailor Emily
See? Florals and stripes aren't always all bad! The bonkers big belt helps, and those earrings: I want.
13. Eye-Searing Fashion
Love some neon and Formula 1-inspired dressing for our girl.
14. Ruffling Feathers
Of all the girls' St Tropez looks, this was probably the most underwhelming, but it's still pretty.
15. It's A Dogstooth Life
This is how you do pattern mixing, people. Side note: Anyone else find Emily's hair a little too poodle-esque this season? (I know, I know, dog shampoo jokes aside).
16. Quite An Introduction
This is really the first glimpse we get of Emily, and it's a perfect reminder of her style. Bold, stripes, crop tops.
17. Lady In Red
I'm not in love love with the overall look or color combination, but that back view of the jacket with the buttons tips this over into the top 20.
18. Emily's Version Of Country
This is Emily's "I'm in Champagne and said about Gabriel" look. It doesn't exactly scream French countryside to me, but that top is nice.
19. The Green Fairy
Our girl so rarely does a monochrome look, but she nailed this one. Love the sunnies.
20. Business With Pleasure
I love when Emily mixes up sexy-sexy with business. No, I really do. Once more, I need that blazer.
21. A Surprise From Behind
From the front, this is a bit mum-sy for me, but then you get that back and WHAM you understand. (There's a better back moment for you later on in this list, though).
22. Think Pink
I could tell you this outfit's ranking is all about the pattern mixing and the colors, which are both great. But no, it's all about those boots.
23. Rain Or Shine
Now this is an outfit that is more than the sum of its parts. I love that top on its own and OBVIOUSLY those tulle knee-high boots because, um, read that description over again. But it's how it all comes together that really makes it.
24. The Outfit That Could Have Been
This outfit ranks ridiculously high for something we didn't ever get a great look at, I know. But that acid-washed dress with a Fuschia blazer combo keeps haunting my dreams.
25. Be My Valentine
It's adorable, AND Alfie takes it all off at the end of the night. Bonus points for the pearl hair tie.
26. The One Where I Backtrack
All right, THIS bucket hat can stay. Another wild and wacky outfit that somehow all comes together brilliantly. And the hat has its own little dangling charm!
27. All Aboard The Love Boat
Is this a little costume-y? Well, yes. But that headband and plastic umbrella are both the perfect accessories.
28. Plain As Plaid
I love when we get a head-to-toe lewk including an outdoor jacket addition. This is all Grace Kelly elegance inside, and Audrey Hepburn cute outside.
29. Finally A Good Birthday Look
I'm glad Emily FINALLY pulled it out for her birthday. Too bad the whole thing was a disaster.
30. Black And White And Fab All Over
It's on the simple side for Emily, but darned if the impact isn't high. Plus, she later pairs it with a kooky coat, so you know she hasn't had a concussion or something.
31. Red Redemption
This feels like one of the more focused, idea-based looks in the season. It's a little bit school girl, a lot English steeplechasing, and I love it.
32. The Finale Girl
I mean, of course this was going to come in high on the list. It's a stunner for sure, especially that hair jewelry. But maybe a tiny bit expected, no?
33. Switching It Up
I love how this look completely changes depending on the view. From the front it's all Bond girl; with the jacket it goes a little varsity; and from the back...well, I'm speechless.
34. Little Edie Realness
Emily's failed St. Tropez look appropriately reminds me of the faded glamour of old American divas like the Bouviers. This is a very good thing.
35. It's A Man's World
Alright, yes, wearing your boyfriend's jacket and calling it style is a little overdone, but this look still got results.
36. Perfection
To me, this is peak Emily. Lots of patterns, knee-high boots, a honking big label, but it's all so cohesive, clear, and direct.
Emily Honorable Mention: Beach Ready
I mean, I'm not going to give a place for a poolside look, but if I were, this would rank pretty high. Still, Emily did not have the actual best looks in the season. Here are the real winners.
Sylvie Grateau
Oh sure, she definitely needs to learn the meaning of "HR," but don't ever say Emily's boss Sylvie doesn't deliver when it comes to fashion. And there's one look in particular she does better than anyone else.
15. Shine Bright Like A Diamond
Listen, there is nothing wrong with this look. Sylvie's style is so consistently good, this is just the most subdued of the bunch. Get ready to massage your eyeballs with elegance for the next one.
14. The Real Housewives Serve
Sylvie gets a new, young, and beautiful Dutch man this season and stops worrying about Antoine in the slightest. This outfit is the epitome of French cougar-dom, and I'm fully supportive of her.
13. Good As Gold
Sylvie with a bag of French baked goods, a thigh-high split, and a dash of gold is all I'd need to start my morning right.
12. Morning Ritual
Now, I've left off most of Emily's kicking it at home looks because they're nothing to write home about, but of course Sylvie can make morning schlub look chic.
11. Power Suit
What I love about this look is that Sylvie was the only one who didn't change before going to Emily's birthday party. Truly, never change, Sylvie.
10. A Vibe We Can All Get Behind
The black lace dress is pretty and all, but this got where it is purely for Sylvie wearing it with a wine glass and amazing coat as accessories. But mostly it was the wine glass.
9. Who's The Boss?
Sylvie's finale look says "don't mess with me" but also "I am a ridiculously elegant woman."
8. Get It, Sylvie
We're so used to seeing Sylvie all uptight and office-mode, but weekend beach Sylvie is hot as heck.
7. The Perfect Accessory
Like Weekend Beach Sylvie, Overnight Lover Sylvie just needs a tank top and she's one of the most stylish women in the room. The razor-cheekboned Dutch man behind her doesn't hurt, either.
6. Pop Of Color
I love when Sylvie wears bold colors, and those shoes are bold enough for her whole outfit. The suit's tailoring is impeccable, of course.
5. Woman In White
As the season wound down, Sylvie really turned on her "boss" looks. And man, am I glad she did. This suit is just the first of many revelations.
4. Head Boss In Charge
Yeah, Sylvie, you go confront Madeline in this metaphorical suit of armor.
3. Prints Please
Like bold colors, we don't often see Sylvie in prints, but when she goes for it, the results are undeniable. I love these Grecian goddesses for my Gallic goddess.
2. Walking The Walk
Look, I don't actually love the dress THAT much. But it's not about that dress; it's about her walk and Erik's look, right?
1. Shine On
Sylvie, a suit, color, AND shine. What more could you ask for? Still, although Sylvie is the GOAT when it comes to solid style, there is one other character who has higher highs (and lower lows).
Camille Razat
Last season, it seemed a bit like the writers and costumers were still finding their footing with Camille. But this year, she blossomed. Except, uh, for one BIG problem.
11. Swing And A Miss
I just hate this look, I don't care if there's a Celine bucket hat involved. The less said about this the better.
10. Snake Bite
We never got a great look at this one, but I love the scraped-over hair and the boyish look on her. Tres gamine.
9. Leather Me Up
From boyish to VERY womanly. Camille turned so butt-kicking this season.
8. Demin Dream
Ok, so she might have become a whole lot more brash this season, but Camille still found time to be utterly adorable. Bucket hat included....I guess.
7. Channeling Chanel
We didn't get a great look at this one either, but Camille's sunglasses game is on point throughout this season (trust me, you'll see), and this jacket is like Chanel via the 80s.
6. Giving Sylvie A Run For Her Money
What a way to come to St. Tropez. Love the hat, thank God.
5. The Cutest Ever
See what I mean about the sunglasses? This outfit also has such a cute sailor concept, and she's got great taste in shoes.
4. Je Ne Sais Quois
Emily always wears berets, but she should leave them to Camille, who knows what to do with them.
3. Doing It Better
This is the perfect dinner outfit for your soon-to-be ex-friend. It's not super flashy, it's in a fantastic tweed, and the boots look great when you're stomping away.
2. A Woman Scorned
Camille really woke up this morning and chose the best revenge outfit she could.
1. Not So Innocent
I mean, how can you argue with this? The shoes, the blazer dress, the strut. Those sunglasses again! I need to recreate this immediately.
Camille Honorable Mentions: Femme Fatale
Camille wore a LOT of black this season, usually with a juicy red lipstick. Respect. But you know who I lost a little respect for? The plotlines of this next character.
Mindy Chen
Oh, poor Mindy. Locked into a boring storyline with a love interest who had the charimsa of dry toast, Mindy had to suffer through several "breezy boho" looks to show how much of a free-spirited time she was having. But she did get her groove back.
15. Locked Down
BORING. Okay, the shorts are cute. Next.
14. Birds Of A Feather
Mindy's stagewear was usually more interesting, but this one just felt like it was trying so hard to be fun and only wound up drab. Very drab.
13. I'm An Artist Now
More vaguely bohemian stuff that doesn't really suit Mindy's exuberant nature, though this one isn't so bad. Thank goodness, though, it got better from there.
12. Wrap It Up In A Bow
The bow! The vibrant color! The boots! I'm so relieved to see my snazzy girl back.
11. A Real Crowd Pleaser
Stagewear that finally does her right (though maybe not her girls).
10. Animal Instinct
If you're going to make Mindy "wild and free," this is how I prefer it: with lots of animal print and a side of thigh.
9. Busting Out
Mindy dances on the tables in this outfit, as well she should. Also, I love her makeup.
8. All Frills
Ah yes, happy, bouncing Mindy who wears color and big ruffles and hats! The Mindy before joining the band.
7. Getting Grinchy
This is just a small opening moment and we don't see much more than this, but darned if it doesn't make me want to see a spinoff with Mindy as a glam detective solving mysteries.
6. All The World's A Stage
This performance and get-up went deservedly viral in the real word, but can I just say I prefer the sparkly cover-up she wore?
5. Chartreuse, Darling
The chartreuse looks great on her here, but to me this look is all about that sparkly patchwork coat, which tragically didn't get enough screen time.
4. Make Them Love You
I'm obsessed with how much sparkle there is here, and I need to know the name of Mindy's tailor because those pants are pitch perfect.
3. Just Do It
I seriously considered making this look number one, but two greater outfits won out. Still, how can you NOT love this?
2. A Return To Form
Thank goodness, Mindy comes to her senses late in the season. No, she doesn't dump her drippy dude, but she DOES inject her personal, off-stage style with personality. Love this for her.
1. Private Eyes
Again, I tell you: We need a chic detective story with Mindy at the helm.
Julien
Julien, like Luc, doesn't get a lot of love throughout the series. But what we DO see of him more than makes up for it. So as a nice little bonus I've decided to rank some of his best outfits for you.
8. Pink Is Not Just For Girls
Julien loves wearing these little chain things on his collar. I am fully into them, too.
7. Coming Up Roses
The sneakers are an interesting choice. Not one I'm sure pays off, but the rest is undeniable.
6. Taste The Rainbow
Sigh. Even Julien's weekend looks are so good.
5. Groovy Baby
It takes a real man to put on a print like this, and it takes a fashionable man to totally pull it off.
4. Greek God
Julien may have struck out while wearing this outfit, but it's still a winner. Love that ancient Greek-like motif. And the collar chains!
3. Knockout Combination
This color combo is just the best. He also makes it look easy and effortless, which is a feat in itself.
2. Fine And Dandy
If we had been able to see more of this, I think I might have made it #1. It's just a perfect look, like an English gentleman mixed with an American banker.
1. Fine China
This suit is so gorgeous, I'll even forgive the near unforgivable wrinkling in the photo on the right. The pattern is like a Rorschach test meets a china pattern meets toile, and the insouciant t-shirt makes the look.
Series Honorable Mentions: Ellen von Unwerth
She came for the photoshoot, but her blazer stayed in our hearts.
Series Honorable Mentions: Madeline's Moment
Madeline spent most of this season pregnant and in various comfy clothes, but for the finale she really did pull out a great coat.
The Bottom 5: Worst Of The Bunch
Well, that's that—so the only thing left to do is round them all up and make them compete against each other! What? Fashion is a cutthroat world, people. Let's start with the worst.
5. Birds Of A Feather
It's not so bad at first glance, but the more you look at it, the worse it gets.
4. What Is Going On Here, Girl?
My visceral reaction to this one is: No.
3. Yellow Moment, Big Mistake
Every time I see this one, I get embarrassed.
2. Locked Down
I can't endure a snooze-fest.
1. Swing And A Miss
It just had to be done. Not even Camille can make this look chic.
The Top 5: Best Of The Bunch
Alright, but we're not all mean witches here, so it's time to celebrate the cream of the crop. And let's just say, they should call the show Camille in Paris.
5. Shine On
I would wear this right now.
4. Perfection
Credit where it's due, this was a gasp-worthy moment.
3. Private Eyes
For such an iffy season for Mindy, it's incredible she pulled this out.
2. A Woman Scorned
Camille should be angry and single more often.
1. Not So Innocent
Of course it was this one!! Fight me if you don't agree.
